ok you guys, so i got to thinkin, and so far that one picture that chris lucia insists on using of countdown seems to get people pretty riled up, and really sets some kind of image as far as a goal is concerned. Not to have any kind of "pioneer" ego, but a lot of today's show goers didn't start coming to shows around 05-06, and they totally missed what we had here at it's finest of years. So with that said, it got me to thinking about some kind of 541 History thread, backed with videos, reviews, pictures, or anything reminiscent of the glory days. This wouldn't be some kind of goal, because i think we as a community have the power to create something bigger, something better. But more or less giving proper credit to the thing that inspired anything that we've invested ourselves into that is related to the local scene. Tell me what you guys think, If you have recollection of the shows then, we would have you post. If you have videos, photos, or anything of the sort, e mail me, and i'll continue looking around. if we can find enough support and material to create something worth reading, i imagine it only bringing good to the table. comments?

Allow me to kick this off with a golden piece of 541 music scene history, circa 2005:

sadly i was most active in showgoing during its downfall of the eugene music scene in the late 1990s. a lot of skinhead related fighting going on, drama, and violence. but saw some great ska punk and oi shows despite fear of being beaten up by agro skinhead girls...
here are some song lyrics... the band is angelic upstarts, the song is Solidarity
----- all the polish workers fight to make their stand and behind them every honest working men in unity there`s each other and your friend becomes your brother and in the tyrant`s heart will be a lesson learned
give them hope, give them strength, give them live like a candle burning in the black of night we`re all with you in our hearts and in our minds and we`ll pray for our nation through its darkest times
the tyrant has no smile upon his face cause he knows that in his minds he`s in disgrace remission of you will take his breath away until we come and we will have our day
give them hope, give them strength, give them live like a candle burning in the black of night we`re all with you in our hearts and in our minds and we`ll pray for our nation through its darkest times
as the polish workers fight to make their stand and behind them every honest working men join hand with your brother and then you can help each other watch the tyrant burn in the fire that he had built ----------------------

So stole my idea!! Haha. But I completely agree on this. I would encourage people to right bios on old bands and if anyone has copies of old music, then upload it for people to download. I know there is a lot of stuff that people wish they could get their hands on again. Heidi brought something to my attention, we all talk about the glory days yada yada but we have to realize we're just talking about our generation. Before us there was a huge punk scene in the 90's.

Well, first off, this was something i've been thinkin about since bryce mentioned he had some old footage of doubtfully yours, and concerning the glory days, that really just varies person to person. For me, the glory days was the countdown days. But, for say, heidi, the glory days would be the 1990's. In which case i would encourage her to post any kind of material reminiscent to the era. We all come from different eras. Look at jay fatal, that guy's like 65, he was there when it was freakin disco fever in the granges.
Contribute what you know, no boundries.

I remember living a few blocks from Walnut Rd off Harlow and hearing a shoot off in the street. Watched the news and it was a skin head gang shoot out... like 4-5 years ago i think.

I miss Eugene's Jazz. I think hasn't been put on the map for a band since Rock and Roll soldiers. And I haven't heard much of them lately.

I think that jazz is just selectively played in this town. The jazz combo I'm in just plays for local events and for semi-elitist events like wine-tasting and the like. It really puts us in a corner in terms of who and where we want to play.
Rock N' Roll Soldiers? Weren't they kicked off of their label for doing un-Christian-like things on a Christian label or something?
