i'm really happy with the choice to shut down Guantanamo Bay within the year. I do think though, that it may have been too hasty of a decision and that since there aren't enough prisons willing (or i guess, eager) to take the prisoners, that it might kind of backfire. I think Guantanamo Bay should ultimately be closed but only when the prisoners all have accounted for places to move to and to be further detained (just given the rights that they, being held on American soil, are entitled to).

This is America, and we fuckin' torture our prisoners. Don't close that shit, keep dripping water on their foreheads until they spill the beans! On a related note: I am actually stoked for Obama (hear me out, conservatives. I'm conservative myself.) McCain would've been walking into a Dem (dim? haha) majority senate and congress. He would've been fucked. Thus, he would've been forced to elect more left-leaning members to his cabinet to please this dem majority. He wouldn't get shit passed if he tried to counteract the libs with a conservative cabinet. This Obama guy is starting to really grow on me. A lot. I have to admit, I am drinking some of his Kool-Aid. Dude is an AMAZING speaker (not that this is a game-changer, but fuck. Props to his writers, they know what the fuck they're doing). And so far, his cabinet and advisers have been fairly moderate. As opposed to (like I said earlier) McCain, who would've had to try and please the libs with a lib (or relatively lib) cabinet. Anyone who can grip the American public like Obama did is gonna get my attention, and after hearing him and seeing his actions, I am surprisingly stoked and engaged in seeing what he can do. I guess it doesn't hurt that the Conservatives (in government, not as a people) are eating themselves alive. I think it's time for a changing of the guard in the Republican party. Not all of us are middle-class, white, Christian, heterosexual males. And the sooner the Republicans realize that, the better.

I don't really know how to properly quote things on this but "Don't close that shit, keep dripping water on their foreheads until they spill the beans!" is hilarious. I am very happy to see his decisions in political positioning. I don't hate John McCain but i'm very excited to see the democratic party back in the white house, just to see if things can/will change for the better. It was definitely going to be a tough road for whoever was elected but i think that Barack can deliver. I've been reading more and more about his urban policy, i didn't know too much about it, but it sounds like something that could potentially be really good. Now i just need to read oppositions to it and have the flaws i may not have noticed be touched upon. Perhaps i will post my findings later.
And he does give one hell of a speech.

I'm pretty sure he writes his own speechs. Kinda like how Blink-182 used to write all their music, then they'd take it to Mark Trombino and record it? I'm guessing it's that kind of thing, but that wasn't the point. Either way, his speeches are gripping (even if it's 90% liberal rhetoric, the speeches and the delivery are awesome. Not saying I buy into much or all of the content). Plus, he sort of has the upper hand seeing as how ANYONE could get up and deliver a speech better than our last president. By the way, am I the only one that found George's slip-ups slightly endearing? I mean, other than the fact that he was our Commander in Chief and should probably be able to speak at an eighth grade level...

I 100% agree that his speeches are spine tingling and eye watering. Not only does having a retard for a president prior but I also think it has to do with the current situation our country is in that makes his speeches so powerful. I mean, if you watch the speech he gave on election day when they announced he won. some epic words right thur. but whateva. I'm not expecting everything to be honky dory. I think he'll make a great president, regardless of how much CHANGEEEEEE he brings (or doesn't bring...) to our country. It's cool to see people involved in politics that never cared before... and the whole Secretary to the Arts?!? if that happens, I'm hella stoked.
