So in another thread, (community discussion - 541musicscene.com) Cory left a post with ideas on what he wanted to do to promote 541musicscene.com :
-Fliers -Buisness Cards -Advertize through myspace bulletins
Which all take money. (sept for the obvious one) We all need to get together and get this out there and known, in able to light a fire under peoples butts to get active for the scene. ;D

If somebody made a design, I would make a trip to Kinko's and print as many flyers and cards as my budget allows. I'm not good with that stuff, so someone get on that shit.

one thing which might be a great marketing tool (you may even be able to make money off of it) would be to make a CD sampler of a bunch of local bands. each band can contribute one or two songs, and they can be sold at shows for a dollar or two. profits can go toward printing fliers, banners, etc. that way, nobody is reaching into their pocket (besides the initial investment of making the CDs themselves.
just an idea...

I have a TON of blank cd's I'd be down to donate and burn. I just don't want to get together all of the songs/artwork by myself. also, I don't know if anyone noticed. But I posted the flyer I made back in the day the "I WANT YOU TO JOIN 541musicscene.com" on pretty much every band/person who lives in oregon's myspace and we've had 7 or 8 new members since. and a lot more active accounts. Try to be welcoming to the newbies that post. Check out their music if they post a link. Respond to their posts. Go to shows they put in the calender. yahhhhhhhhhhh? I'd suggest everyone to help spread the love this way. It's free (minus time) promotion and it's "working". Tell some of your local musicians/bands/friends about it. -That they can come promote their band here. -That they can talk to other music lovers here. -That they can post their show dates in the calenders here. -That they can be involved in the music community here. It only took me like 15 minutes to post those, just trying to stir up some dust with new memberships, opinions, ideas, and debates. So not only should you post myspace bulletins (which most people don't look at) you should tell people to join via myspace comments. Facebook walls. Other social networking sites? I've posted on the craigslist music/musician forums and they just flag them. So if someone has a good idea of how to post something on CL and not have it get flagged, then I'm sure that would be a great source of promotion.

That is a great idea. Fuck. The next time my band plays, I'm sure we'd all sport 541musicscene shirts. We could make an announcement at the show. I'm sure a lot of the other bands would do that. That and the cds would be pretty sweet.

I guess I just want people to hear "541musicscene.com" so much that they're like "hmm, I'm gonna check it out"

it would also be relatively cheap/easy to get a print ad into either the Eugene Weekly or the Portland Mercury (Willamette Weekly is a good one too, it might cover a broader area). a LOT of people turn to local newsmagazine forums to find out what's happening, and even if you ran an ad once a month, it would bring in the crowds. if you feel it isn't working, scrap the idea and try something else.
when i say ad, think of the "thrasher presents" ads you see every week. has band names, is simple, and has a plug for the website included in the text. you probably don't need more than 1/4 page, and i'm willing to bet that you could even fit it in less space.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but we've had crazzzzy activity here in the past couple of days.
I don't want to point any fingers (or take the credit)....but I think my random myspace/craigslist postings are paying off. 101 guests in the past 24 hours? 33 MEMBERS in the past 24 hours? WTF?
I suggest people spam your Oregon friends myspaces with 541musicscene.com banners n' whatnot also.

thanks. I needed that. I was just saying, it's as easy as spamming people online for 10-15 minutes. and they will come.

I have also stated this in some other forum, but I will here also. You could tell Carl, the guy that does the local music stuff on sunday nights, to mention this site during his time on the radio. I'm sure he'd be down. I am not aware of how to get ahold of this person, or else I would. If someone wanted to tell me hwo to, I'll do it. It's just a suggestion. That'd be free advertisement and easy.

I don't know what it's called, actually. Ha. I haven't listened to it in a long time. I just know he plays local stuff on Sunday nights, if I remember correctly.
