The current WHO phase of pandemic alert is 5.
Phase 5 is characterized by human-to-human spread of the virus into at least two countries in one WHO region. While most countries will not be affected at this stage, the declaration of Phase 5 is a strong signal that a pandemic is imminent and that the time to finalize the organization, communication, and implementation of the planned mitigation measures is short.
Phase 6, the pandemic phase, is characterized by community level outbreaks in at least one other country in a different WHO region in addition to the criteria defined in Phase 5. Designation of this phase will indicate that a global pandemic is under way.
Does anyone else think this is something we should be worried about? Is it over-hyped and is everyone just being paranoid?
I'm hopefully getting a mask today (to wear at work/in public), and I also asked to work from home until the pandemic passes.
Discuss!

I'm soooooo fucked. I work at Venture Data with no set cubicle, sharing headsets and keyboards with many gutter punk employees. I didn't even think about that...that blows dude. You should get a mask to wear, maybe bring in seperate headset muffs, hand sanitizer, and some alcohol swabs to clean the equipment with. I would do that if I worked there regardless of the swine flu. haha. I remember when I worked there years and years ago, they had a Tuberculosis outbreak and only the supervisors knew about it and they didn't tell anyone. It was pretty effed up.

I have already been taking hand sanitizer. I getting the wipes too.
Maybe we should buy our own head sets. I never even thought of that.

... I'm not doing anything about it. Really. I've lived through so many other totally serious outbreaks that were destined to kill everyone off... so I'm not too worried. I haven't heard of any cases in my area... and even still, years and years ago, there was an outbreak of something around here, I think 24 people in my county alone died... I still went on with my every day life. I feel like it's another one of those Y2K, or "oh no a giant tsunami is going to wash away the oregon coast"[Although, you Eugenians probably wouldn't know anything about that one... would you??] things... but then, I'll probably just end up being the one that dies because they don't take precautions. My bosses are very intelligent people though, so I'm sure if it actually gets to the point where it's so bad I need to do something about it, they'll let me know... and probably make me a]not go to work or b]never leave the Yachats valley, so I don't risk the farm. Hahaha

its all a government coverup, theyre making us focus on this fake disease so that they can pass something major by us without us knowing. maybe like arlen spector switching sides, giving the democrats in the senate full control (once al franken wins that race, which he already has like 5 times) and obama getting an almost immediate chance to appoint someone to the supreme court that will adhere to his uber liberal principals. seriously though, you guys did hear about these things right? or did the swine flu coverup work nicely? anyways, regarding the fakeness of swine flu, read this: news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090501/ap_on_he_me/med_swine_flu_virus

Well, think about it, would you really rather everyone just act like it doesn't exist. Or do you want people to overreact, so maybe, it won't spread as much. If no one cared about it, everyone would be sick right now. But really, as time goes by, it doesn't seem as serious. People are kinda easing it over. Yes, people are dying.... In Mexico. But, there is like no medical aid over there. So obviously, it's gonna hit Mexico pretty hard. Although, one 33 year old just died of swine flu today or yesterday. But, she also had other health issues..and had a baby a little before that. I'm just saying, swine flu is probably something you should keep tabs on. And not just forget about it.
