Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas time and this time of the year in general (Christmas, New Year's, MY BIRTHDAY, snow, etc.) but I can't help but get a little irked by the fact that we celebrate the idea that Baby Jesus was brought Frankincense and Muir by the Wise Men by indulging in gluttony, greed, and an overall false sense of cheerfulness that we somehow seem to abandon by the first week of January.
Don't get me wrong, I spend way too much time and money selecting the perfect presents for everyone, and I stuff myself with all the food I possibly can handle on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I just wish this sense of joy and giving would carry over into January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, and October.
And I also can't help but get a little queasy seeing the stores capitalize on our "holiday cheer" by displaying and selling Christmas items well before Halloween.
It's almost like seeing the school supplies on sell in early July.
Hallmark has this country by the balls when it comes to Christmas, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc.
Just once, I'd like to see some people send a card to a veteran on Veteran's Day. Show some of that holiday cheer on a holiday where we're not given an excuse to shamelessly indulge in greed and gluttony by the sheer fact that it's a national holiday.
By the way, a 30 pack of Busch Light would be considered a justifiable Christmas/birthday present for everyone's favorite messageboard moderator.
Just sayin'.

i guess i should have added to the post a larger list of things that are good, but i think it can be summed up by anything that isnt necessarily tangible. gifts are great, but its the meaning behind a gift. the time of year when its called for and excusable to take time off work or a busy schedule to relax with family and friends.
i guess its like Disneyland for me.... i cant have the great feeling everyone else has when i see so much greed, gluttony, hypocrisy.

actually, you big pessimistic children, if you really look around, most people are MORE stressed out, and MORE grumpy, or at least the lower class work force is. I agree about everything, but it's the freakin time of year when even jobs will allow an entire family be together to celebrate (insert cause here. the theological christmas mostly died many years ago, but still, the holiday still holds great meaning) this might all add to your point, and to be honest, the whole christmas present thing is super silly when taken out of its context, but i think i probably just love the nostalgia of the holiday. the lights are freakin sweet, i love egg nog, i love decorating trees, and the house, and listening to the tunes. period. like, a girls period.
besides, i'm the most fuckin jolly mother fucker you know.

I hate christmas songs and the inflatable santas. Everything else is cool though. I just like a simple Christmas. With my friends preferably since I never really had it with my family all together. In regards to Chris on the beer present; the best birthday present I recieved was an 18 pack of Coors and a carton of Marb reds. So simple yet very satisfying.
