Copied from the Introductions thread:
"Hmm... Well I am Shayne Dominguez. I started attending shows and getting involved with local music around very late '03 early '04. Back then I was never a HUGE fan of shows, I just went occasionally. To hear new sounds, meet a few people. This was back when I was a freshman. Being a part of that in those times of my life, opened up a lot of doors for me. I was introduced to new styles of music, new people and the concept of DIY shows. Although I never really organized a show myself (tried, but couldn't find a venue) I did attend quite a few back in the day and really enjoyed myself.
I would like the same for any youngster, who doesn't really have him/herself figured out yet. Hardcore for example is about bringing positive messages into the community through music. If there is an active scene, then I strongly believe kids wont be as bored as they are now. It will keep them away from doing shit that isn't worth their time. They might pick up an instrument, they might try to organize shows, they might fundraise to support their shows or bands. Who knows, but it comes down to being productive.
I encourage people to bring younger siblings, friends, even if you think they may not like the music. You never know. I recently brought a friend of mine to the Samurai Duck when Aeolus played with Athens. Now this friend of mine, is what you would classify as a "gangsta/thug/whatever you must" but you get the idea. During Athen's set he just kinda sat at the bar not really doing anything but watching. Chris, Shaq and myself went outside to smoke and talk to the guys from Aeolus. I was thinking to myself as I could hear the music playing, "Damn, Jeremy must really be hating that shit right now." I went back inside and sat with him. Every once in a while he would go, "that was sick" just short remarks very seldom. I though he was just saying that to not feel so awkward, you know? After the set, I went to get a drink and Jeremy comes up to me and asks, "Hey man, do you have $10 I can borrow? I can't decide if I want to get a CD or a shirt. What should I get?" I responded kinda astonished, "#### man, here's $20 and get both!" Haha there you go. Someone, who you never would have thought to like this kind of music, ended up really liking it. He now asks me for music all the time and he goes around the house growling and yelling and beating on things as if they were drums. It's these kind of things that can happen so easily and new light like this will build this scene up again.
For the moment I live in Spain, but I care deeply about my friends and friends who have bands. I would like to see this pick up just as much as anybody else, even though I wont experience it for a long time. If and when I do comeback, I'd want there to be a possibility for a "welcome home" show and for it to not be a problem at all to organize. As with any other kind of event. ie: birthday parties, graduations, weddings, whatever.
Best of luck to all, and I'll do what I can from over here"
I'd like to add I am currently playing with a band called The Marriage (for fans of Botch, Poison the Well, Converge, Isis, The Chariot, Norma Jean, etc.) I'll be posting more about them as I become more active in the band.
