Hi I'm Sean,
...and I have a problem.
Fuck, I need a xylophone like a drunk needs alcohol. It's not a want it's a need that claws at my mind (yeah, it makes me crazy) every night and this night is a testament to that.
I'm a vibist (vibes as in vibraphone) so needless to say I mostly play jazz and symphonic stuff but I've been trying to expand the genre and make the uses of the instrument broader than jazz, folk and classical. I play at LCC and I have been playing mallets for about seven years now. I've never been in any functional band outside of school but that's just because my instrument is way too expensive and I haven't gotten a job yet. I have never really gone to any concerts or been involved in the scene here in any conventional sense but again, it's because of my instrument. Well, that's only half an excuses, I honestly just don't get out much.

would you say that your xylophone is the instrument you use to release your complex human emotions, and create inner harmony? i want to learn the accordion, play piano, but i am always wanting to try new things... and if i ever play in a band, it would be devoted to lumberjack folk music, (see knight library for great collection), and an accordion would be the prime instrument for such a genre.

Yeah, you could say that. Except for the inner harmony part. I need to find a better outlet for that. I've been thinking about looking into zen, but that's nether here nor there.
Yeah folk is cool. I heard the Blare St. Mugwumps at the holiday market and it made me really start thinking about looking into folk and since western xylo was originally used primarily in folk it has its attractions. But I think that I want to go into alternative more. It's not about me, I'm really driven to make more popularity for this instrument.
