I don't know if this is a vent or if I'm looking for honest input. I'll let you decide... To be honest, it's been difficult trying to get people to listen to The ILLusionists. I realize it's fucking different and it's not hardcore or whatever, but it's frustrating to put up new music all the time and get no feedback at all. I've had awesome responses from everyone who actually got the CD, but I can't get a show to save my life. The hard part is just getting people to give it a chance. Anyone have a suggestion here? I'm far too jaded to whore myself out like I did in high school, but there's gotta be a smarter way to do this. www.myspace.com/SleepRocking

well, despite the fact that you whored yourself out then, that scene has passed. the kids that liked listening to the music moved on to "better" things. There's a new crowd now, and if you want a part, the truth of the matter is, you get what you put in. you want people out there, be a part of the promotion. get your name, your studio, your bands names, all out there, in the same arms that all the other local acts are. i understand you have quite a bit on your plate, but on the other hand, you work at the most musically centralized store in this area. get your employees, and patrons to attend. fuck, you're the salesmen, not me. butter them up!

That's what I was afraid of. Again, the problem isn't so much getting people there, it's getting someone to book us. At this point we're outcasts from both this and the local hip-hop crowd. I suppose I'll keep trying...

Why? Did you cap some ho's or somethin'? I'm sorry I couldn't resist. Plus it was really bad so I'm doubly sorry.
So you've called all the local people around here and they won't book you? Try getting ahold of the larger groups around here like Lafa Taylor or a band that plays around here often. Remember,U2 opened with Primus years back and nobody had a fucking clue what was going on. I think that a lot of bands would let you open for them if you just got ahold of them.

Yeah, you watch that shit or I'll cap YOUR ho.
Anyway, I bothered a good handful of promoters and venues and got literally ignored by everyone except Diablo's, who just said we needed a live backing band. I've talked to a couple of groups about opening, so it seems like that's going to be the way to go.

Yeah, I've talked to 3 Blind Mics through Steve and nothing's really happened yet. I've got a friend of a friend with The Reward System as well. I'm trying to hook it up... maybe I'll talk to Danny when I get a bill?

yeah man, but we'll need to consider draw. who's going to bring the people. whether it be by force from intensive promotion, or a following from shows prior. I don't foresee steve having a huge sense of urgency about the thing, i would e mail dalton, and hassle him about it. www.myspace.com/darktanions that should put you on his music page. i don't know a whole lot about the hip hop scene around here, but i should look more into it, because the little bubble around us probably won't be as receptive to that genre in particular. unless of course your talkin about bustin bitches and hundred dolla billz. HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT FOR 541MS! -keep an eye peeled for fliers around town promoting hip hop shows, and get the artists contact info and myspace, or link to music. -report any hip hop with draw, to help get the underdogs music out there.
