hey guys. I'm in a band called Decoh, we only have two members and currently use a mac book/garage band to do all of our recordings. we would like to get as many opinions as we can, and since people that we don't know are (usually) unbiased, I've come here. We would like all kinds of feedback too, not just about the music itself, but the quality, eq, and anything else you can think of! lastfm page: www.last.fm/music/Decohmyspace page: www.myspace.com/decohmusicthanks everyone <3

I saw your post so here we go: I'm gonna criticize stuff, so if you don't want criticism, stop here. In Ship, use the automations on Garageband to bring your vocals out more when you're singing and to keep the organ high when it's instrumental. Your vocals are just not hot enough. We need more presence! More presence would really help the overall mood of the song. Charon: More upper midrange/treble on the vocals or just turn the tone up on the overdrive/distortion, because it's blending in with the guitar and it's getting hard to understand and it's blending and gah, it's just hard to hear. Either way, this song is pretty rad. Kill needs some sound effects at the beginning of it. Like some really low volume spacey panned synths, like some evolving gate synths like what's in the "synth textures" menu. Otherwise, vocals up more. The vocals are all too low. It's a shame, too, because it's good stuff! Iron Spoon: I LIKE THE SYNTH AT THE BEGINNING. Get the bass synth on the beat, I think that might help it out a bit because it's hard to keep the beat in my head with the bass synth like that. Until the bass gets on the beat later. which is rad. More dynamic contrast, get louder/softer in certain spots, because it's all the same volume/dynamic and it's glazing my eyes a bit. At least more notes/synths when it gets climactic or something. Overall, keep this shit up. You have talent. And I like Garageband myself a bit more than Logic anyway, so keep using this. I guess Fallout Boy uses Garageband to make their records, which seems spectacular to me, although I don't like them much. PS. Compressor on electric bass. I heard some bass and it's volume was a bit all over the place, so adding a compressor onto it andusing the "bass smooth" option under presets would help a lot. PPS. EQ! Yes, for instruments, try and select EQ bands that really make that instrument stand out (For bass, upper midrange, for synths, low treble, etc.) and accentuate them with a bit of boost (A LITTLE bit) and then cut other frequencies. When I use synths, I usually find a midrange that suits it, and cut the rest of the frequencies about 3 or 4 db which makes the other instruments stand out a lot more when they need to. Garageband's automations also allow you to change EQ settings while in the middle of the song, so check that out. Yep.
