Balls...
but seriously, Teddy Brown is one of the greats in xylophone history. Look at how the mallets just seem to flow in his hands, he's so relaxed.

There is a guy that does this, really well at that, in plaza mayor here in Madrid every weekend to make money. I always drop a few coins cause he's so damn talented. I'll try and video tape him and post it here. It's just he doesn't go out as much cause the rain...

i was being sarcastic... in the 50s when elvis and eventually the beatles blew away all other music mediums, the consensus of the old people was that guitar music was a fad.
and i dont like or not like... its vibes... i am ambivolent, no offense

Oh, well then your a sack of meat and I have no further use for you.
Don't take that seriously. Actually mallet instruments can be just as if not more articulate as guitar. In fact I read a while back off of a wedsite that some of the alternative bands will use a vibist instead of a lead guitarist. Also some vibists like Stephon Harris are trying to bring vibes more and more into pop culture, Stephon mostly works with hip-hop and R&B, but as soon as I can afforded a set of vibes I intend to experiment with different genres of rock. Vibes kind of cease to be vibes when amped and distorted but that's a bridge that I'll cross when I get there.
Okay, this has been bothering me for a while. They're a XYLOphone. Not a vibraphone. I know for some of you n00bs its hard to tell but try NOT to be retarded.

well i understand that vibes take talent, just like almost all other instruments. im just sayin that theyre just not quite my thing... Well I guess that's okay but in my experience (which isn't vast mind you) most of the people with such an attitude simply never have given the instrument much of a chance to prove its metal (so to speak). Take this video for example, Not only could you put a rock beat and a baseline behind this and it could easily hold it's own, but David Friedman shows examples of styles and techniques that are useful in modern rock, especially metal but it would be more beautiful and expressive in alternative. You might not like this video but I think it illustrate my point well. It sucks that the only example I can find is a Chinese concert and with a Tibetan instrument, my self-esteem just took a hefty blow. Anyway, I would do what ever I could to promote a band like this in the US even if they were pop playing bastards. Besides, torturing cats is fun

Actually, for bar instruments like marimba and vibes, check out Les Claypool's new album: Of Whales And Woe. They have a vibes player.
