I think it was your voice. I've never heard it before then but when I heard it I thought it might be you. Weird.

vibe/xylo stuff is cool and all, but in that first example, and in that chinese pop song, it just doesn't resonate enough even if amp'd. that's where guitar prevails. not only is it more portable, but the strings resonate a lot better. maybe if somehow you could put pickups on a xylophone it'd hold its sound better.
Also in that pop group, the instrument being played just didn't fit the song. I know some trip-hop groups like Portishead use vibrophones at the least and it really fits the style of music they play. really loungy/relaxed/kind of depressing music.

Some success has been produced: www.alternatemode.com/malletkat.shtml, www.kksound.com/vibraphone.html. Now, I have never heard how the pickups sound, but the Malletkat is pretty cool and I really want to get one. However, I usually settle with putting mics all over my instrument, it's crude but it works. Also, I kind of was digging and that pop video was just the first thing I could find that actually worked somewhat with my argument.

Oh nice. it's a step up from electronic drums. kind of reminds me of a sampler but being pressure sensitive and with a different layout.
