The Memento Mori, Taboo and Samurai Duck are our all ages venues. What can we do to make them better? I'm not talking about the fighting, I'm talking about everything else. Build merch stands? Badass lighting? Better sound equipment? Anything, any ideas, brainstorm.

Don't book shows at Taboo anymore That's a pretty good idea....right? The security sucks there Anytime some one moves AT ALL they get thrown out But when a fight breaks out, it takes them a good 3 or 4 minutes to get there And only shitty bands like Aeolus and Of Mountains like to play there

i like those bands...
this would be a good time to promote the taboo show on the 19th... everyone come!
but youre right, i dont see it going anywhere with the security the way it is... too bad. that place isnt supposed to be a rock venue anyways, its a sleez club.
samurai duck needs a lot of improvement, but theyre not really going to do it. they would have to move the stage to the back, where there is room to move. thats the obvious thing to do, but i doubt thats really going to happen.
aaaand i havent been to the MM yet. will most likely be going tomorrow night though!

Moving it to the back would be a good idea. If we keep making them money like we have been, the could possibly be down.

The security Guards at taboo are great at what they do. They don't always know what's going on in the corner of Taboo.

They weren't even on the floor The were all at the front doors A good security team would leave someone on the floor between bands What do you know about organized security? Have you ever been part of a team like that?

well... i dont know amber, the fight actually started in the middle of the room, then moved to the corner... but yeah, they just werent around really... but travis, no point in attacking ambers knowledge of security.... maybe you came across a little more abrasive than you meant to, i dont know, but it looks like youre trying to be a jerk to amber when she is just making a quick statement. i think the root of the problem lies in that these guys arent into rock or metal or hardcore or whatever, they dont know the rules of the show, you know? they cant tell thej difference between dancing and fighting.
thats beside the point. the real point is that i went to the memento mori tonight. I LOVE THAT PLACE!!! its so perfect. some things that could use improvements include: a better sound system (couldnt really hear much) including speakers and mics (especially drum mics and 57s for the guitar cabs) the christmas lights werent on, i wish they were. more light on the very front of the stage would be good... the frontmen wer ein the dark all the time. other than that and probly a few more things i missed, i think paco has done a really good job at setting it up!

The security is well aware that we arent fighting Because they laugh and make fun of dancers by imitating them and they do shit like play rock paper scissors over who gets to throw people out This isn't something that any employee, of any company should do

Damn, people here are way too sensitive. This is the internet, If you can't handle it then don't read it. I would say that Travis' question is extremely valid, whether not it offends this fragile audience or not. And in response to the subject at hand, the hawthorne theater and satyricon both have great security, but they make enough money to afford it. Eugene doesn't bring in big enough bands to be able to afford it. So security is really a moot point. That being said, I have been to most bars and venues in Eugene, and there is only one place in the entire city with decent security. Unfortunately it's 21+. And judging by all the creepers who feel up chicks at taboo on any regular night, I would be very confident in saying that their door guys don't qualify as "security". Does Eugene need security at its shows? It would actually make me laugh If anyone here said yes, by the way...

Yes. Hope you found that funny. I don't wanna turn this into another fighting thread, but once again, Feb. 13th. Full on brawl. There was security needed. This thread is about improving the few venues we have, not arguing about how good someone's security is, or if Eugene actually needs security. What can we do to improve the venues?

Security is indeed a large part of what you call "venue improvement" but all I'm saying is that If you don't pay for security, you won't get it. My intention isn't to be argumentative, If that's what you read then I don't know what to tell you... I think you can't really improve physical aspects of a venue without consulting its owners...right? So besides security, many issues are simply beyond the control of the scene kids. I wish there were a more concrete answer, but short of undergoing a construction project, I don't know what sort of answer you are looking for. Do you have any ideas? Maybe there is something we are overlooking here

The reason that fight went on so long Is because the people that usually break up the fights Being the more level headed of the kids in that group of friends Didn't jump in to stop it, due to the fact there was security At any other show, where there isn't security, a fight wouldn't go on for nearly as long

Well, that fight shouldn't have happened in the first place, honestly. Lets make the security guards' jobs a little easier.
